Ada Lee Smith Hill was born on May 24, 1949, in Hazlehurst, Georgia, to the late James Smith and Ada Lee Smith. She was a proud member of the Hazlehurst High School graduating class of 1967. Ada was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt.
After many years of faithful employment at Wheeler Correctional Facility, she retired due to disability. Even in retirement, she remained active and was known as an excellent cook who loved preparing meals for her family. She cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren, who brought her immense joy. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren affectionately called her “Pooh Bear.”
Ada accepted Christ and joined Bennett Tabernacle Holiness Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Robert Lee Fryer Jr., where she received the Holy Ghost. After many years of faithful service, she later moved her membership to Mt. Sinai Holiness Church under the leadership of the late Apostle James T. McManus. Due to health reasons and to be closer to her family, she later joined Praise Tabernacle Holiness Church in Graham, Georgia, under the leadership of the late Bishop George M. Thomas and Co-Pastor Daisy L. Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her sons, Vernell Smith (Regina), James Hill Jr. (Easter), Apostle Ricky Hill (LaTisha), and Jurell Knox (Cynthia); her daughter, Sheila Hill; her sisters, Betty Jean Warren Carter and Willie Jean George; her sister in law, Eunice Fryer Down; her aunt, Annie Mae Kates; 27 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Sanders and Arie Bell Kurtz; and a very special classmate and friend, Mother Vera Jones Clinton.
Her love, faith, and dedication to her family will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
