Mrs. Annie Joyce Lett was born January 2, 1937. She departed this physical world at the age of 84 on Monday, June 21, 2021, after a very brief illness that preceded the weekend. She passed away at Memorial Health Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
She was born to Daniel and Maggie Coleman in Cobbtown, Georgia. She finished secondary school in 1955. While spending time in Hinesville, Georgia, she met her future husband Booker T. Lett Jr. whom she married in 1958. They spent the next five years in the military as her husband was enlisted in the United States Army at various bases across the continent of Europe.
After her husband's discharge, Mrs. Annie Joyce and her family moved from Fort Sheridan Army Base in Illinois to the northern suburbs of Chicago, after a stint of living in the city of Chicago. Mrs. Annie Joyce slowly moved back north, spending time living in Evanston, Glencoe, then Buffalo Grove. She bought a home in the city near Fort Sheridan known as Highland Park, Illinois. Her and the family spent the next 20+ years living in Highland Park , watching her children grow-up and graduate. She assisted her husband in running the family businesses as well. After her husband's extended illness, Mrs. Annie Joyce moved back to her hometown of Glennville to assist her daughter with her grandchildren, where she remained until her death.
A life-long excellent cook, Mrs. Annie Joyce would share her kitchen secrets with whomever enjoyed her cooking. She also took pleasure in sewing and crocheting anything from undergarments, pillow throws to blankets. You name it, she would create it. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Organization.
Survivors include her son, B. Taliaferro Lett ("Tali" or "Booker"), a daughter-in-law, Karron Martin-Lett, from Oakland, California, a god son, Albert Myers from North Chicago, Illinois, a first cousin Willie "Jean" Bennett from Glennville, Georgia, three grandchildren, Tyrone Gamble from Seattle, Washington, Jeremy John Lett and Danielle Ann Lett, both from Glennville, Georgia, her very much loved niece, Diane ("Niecy") Roberts of Goose Neck, Georgia, and the apple of her eye, her nephew Henry Edward Coleman of Lawrenceville, Georgia, brother-in-law Frank Lett of Charlotte, North Carolina, sister-in-law Eunice Coleman of Rochester, New York; including an abundance other family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Booker T. Lett Jr. in 2008, her daughter Maxine Lett, and her son Darren Lett of Evanston, Illinois.
Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, July 1, 2021, at King and Sons Funeral Home, Glennville, Georgia.
