Betty Knox

April 6, 1942 — July 29, 2018

Obituary "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in me." John 14:1 Mrs. Betty Jean Knox was born on April 6, 1942 in Telfair County, Georgia to the late Lacy and Willie E. Hill. She attended House of God Church for many years and later joined Elizabeth Baptist Church in Hazlehurst, Georgia. Betty married Ira Lee Knox and from this union eight children were born. She worked for the Jeff Davis County School Systems until she retired. While at home she spent most of her time caring for her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Betty also enjoyed long fishing trips, having family gatherings, and sitting on the porch speaking to everyone who passed by. After a long, tough battle with her illness, Betty was called to be with the Lord on July 29, 2018 at the Vidalia Community Hospice. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Lee Knox; two children, Ivory Dewayne Knox and Loretta McLain; one grandchild, Mahlon D. Wilcox; her parents, Lacy and Willie E. Hill; six siblings; Mammie Ruth Hill, Willie Ethel Bennett, Louise Bennett, Idella Hill, Austin Hill and James Hill. She leaves to cherish her memories six children: Mae Kornegay, Virgina (Dwaine) Wilcox, Thomas (Felicia) Knox, Willie Knox, Tammy (Roy) Smith, and Shanterria Knox all of Hazlehurst, GA. Two sisters: Clara Williams of Helena, GA and Rose Smith of Chicago, IL. Nine In-laws: Queenell Pierce, Rosetta Knox, Josie Lee Jackson, Genether Ellis, Reverend Pearlene Reed, Reverend Willie C. (Dorothy) Knox all of Hazlehurst, GA and Apostle Benjamin (Mary) Knox of Atlanta, GA. She also leaves to cherish in her memories thirty grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will be remembered by a very special family friend, Frankie Brown.
