On Sunday night, October 8, 2023, Bishop George Maxwell Thomas heard the Master's call after enduring a short illness.
He was born in Jeff Davis County to the late Deacon George W. Thomas and Elder Ophelia McCoy Thomas. He graduated from Hazlehurst High School: Class of 1967.
At an early age, he joined Bennett Tabernacle Holiness Church under the leadership of Bishop James Pitts. He later became the President of the Sunday School Convention of the House of God the Church of the Living God the Gates of Heaven, Inc., under the leadership of Bishop Robert Lee Fryer.
On April 29, 1971, he entered into Holy Matrimony with Daisy Lee Jones Thomas. In 1988, he became the Founder and Pastor of Praise Tabernacle Holiness Church in Graham, Ga, where he served faithfully until God called home.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories: His loving wife of 52 years: Co-Pastor Daisy L Thomas of Hazlehurst, Ga; A loving brother: Deacon Reno (Evang. Carrie Lee) Thomas of Hazlehurst, Ga; Three Sister-in-Laws: Vera (Calvin) Clinton of Hazlehurst, Ga, Evang. Barbara Hunt of Augusta, Ga, Mother Marolyn Brantley of Hazlehurst, Ga; Four aunts: Ollie Mae Harris, Odesia Hall, LouAnna (Robert) Griffin, and Reabie Mae Mincey, all of Hazlehurst, Ga. And a host of nieces, nephews, and God children.
