Mr. Clifford Smith, 69 passed away December 23, 2024 at Holy Name
Hospital in Teaneck, New Jersey after a brief illness.
Clifford was born May 10, 1955 in Tattnall County, Reidsville, GA to the late
Mr. & Mrs. Herschel and Catherine Smith. His paternal grandparents were
the late Mr. & Mrs. Brad and Janie Smith, his maternal grandparents were
the late Mr. & Mrs. Lester and Jadie Mae Costen.
At an early age under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. J. R. Rice,
Clifford made a spiritual commitment to God and joined Bethel A.M.E.
Church, Collins, GA. He attended Tattnall Elementary School in Reidsville,
GA and graduated high school in 1973 from Reidsville High School. After
graduation, Clifford moved to the Bronx, New York and later to Teaneck,
New Jersey.
Clifford was a modest yet extremely disciplined individual who loved and
adored his family. Clifford was a dedicated employee of New York-based
textile manufacturing company Beacon Looms for over 30 years where he
was elevated in different roles over the duration of his career.
Since childhood, Clifford was quite the equestrian, he loved all animals, but
horses held a special place in his heart. He cared for and rode many horses
on his family farm with his favorite horse being Thompson, whom he often
shared wonderful stories about. Clifford was a fitness guru who found true
joy in weightlifting and exercise. Clifford was also an avid gardener and
enjoyed watching classic black and white films during his retirement.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents: Mr. Herschel Smith and Mrs.
Catherine Smith and three brothers: Mr. Jerome Smith, Mr. Benjamin Smith
and Mr. Lamar Smith. Clifford is survived by two brothers: Mr. Quinton Smith
of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Mr. Donald Smith of Teaneck, New Jersey;
two nephews: Mr. Rolland Smith of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Mr. Allan
Smith of Long Island, New York; one niece: Ms. Janelle Smith of Long Island,
New York; four aunts: Mrs. Julie (Layman) Bailey of Atlanta Georgia, Mrs.
Frances (Alphonso) Borden of Englewood, New Jersey, Mrs. Jessie Dean
(William) Goodman of Elmont, New York, and Mrs. Helen (Alton) McKinnon
of Collins, GA; one uncle: Mr. Willis Costen of Collins, GA; a special cousin:
Mr. Herman Smith of Collins, Georgia; longtime friend: Annie Price and a
host of loving relatives and friends.
