Donnie Lee Thomas

December 27, 1951 — January 29, 2021

Mr. Donnie L. Thomas, age 69, of Jesup, GA, passed Friday, January 29, 2021, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup, Georgia. Mr. Thomas, also known as "Don", was born in Glennville, GA to the parentage of Lillie Collins and Lee Dorsey Thomas. He grew up in Glennville and had many friends. "Don", the name by which he was affectionately called by locals, loved reading the bible, joking, working, and dressing. He loved his dogs, cowboy boots and baseball caps! He loved family and people in general. Don loved life and spending time with family and friends but was known for being the last one to show up for any event. Don was a devoted brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. Mr. Thomas was educated in the Glennville Public School System. Don attended Job Corp at the age of sixteen in Louisville, Kentucky. Don confessed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age. He developed a love for preaching and ministering to others. He accepted the call and began the pastorate of New Generation Church of Christ in Jesup, Georgia where he served for 16 years. He also loved to fellowship and feed the people in the community. Mr. Thomas worked several jobs, but he was most proud of D&M Tire Shop. He was the owner. He always said this was one of his greatest accomplishments. He worked with a variety of contractors where he became an expert in painting, sand blasting and mechanic work. He later became an independent contractor. He was always a hard worker and took great pride in his work. Don was a strong fighter and hilarious guy. He gave everyone he met a nickname. He brought joy and happiness into any room he walked in. There was never a dull moment as he always had everyone laughing and smiling. Don always lended a hand to anyone in need and never hesitated to defend family members or friends. We all should have peace knowing that he is not hurting anymore, that he is safe with the Lord, and is with our loved ones whom we have previously lost. Mr. Thomas will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Don was preceded in death by his parents Lee Thomas and Lillie (Raymond) Collins, his late siblings Mary Ann Thomas and Billy Tootle, his late children Timothy Thomas and Antonio Atkins. His children left to cherish his memory: Gregory (Sharon) Moundine, Shantel Williams, Cloie Elam, and Lencola Thomas. Siblings: Apostle Johnny (Ida) Thomas, Deacon Earl (Emma) Thomas, Danny Scott, Bessie Thomas Harvey, Evangelist Dorothy (James) Davis, Rudene Collins, Gayletha (George) Everett, Deloise (Harry) Lane, Joyce Thomas, Pearl (Bobby) Lanier, Kizzie (Earnest) Spearman, Della (Travis) Costen.
