Eddie Lee Conaway, Sr

November 27, 1941 — April 13, 2021

A native of Wheeler County, Georgia, Eddie Lee Conaway, Senior went home to be with the Lord on April 13, 2021. He was born to Samuel Lee and Gladys Wilcox Conaway on November 27, 1941 in Bryant City, Florida. Eddie attended the Wheeler County School System. Afterward, he attended Tech School in Atlanta, Georgia for Heating and Air Conditioning and Small Appliances. At an early age, he joined the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in the McArthur Community. He attended the St. James Full Gospel Church of God in McRae, Georgia. He met and married Naomi Clark on January 14, 1964. Eddie served as a Corporal in the Vietnam War during the years of 1964-1966. His military career continued with him serving in the New Jersey Reserve for many years. Eddie was very active in Jeff Davis County and Telfair County doing air conditioning work, small appliance repairs, laundry mat maintenance, and etc. He was employed by Grindle's Furniture and Appliance, Jack Dawson Furnitures and Appliances, Hazlehurst Mills, Amercord, Hubert Matthews Heating and Air, Ezeen Cleaners and others. He was self-employed for many years. He was the owner of the Golden Wheel Club, The Town and Country Snack Bar, Conaway's Laundry Mat, and he was an entrepreneur. He was an outdoor person. He loved fishing and hunting. He loved shooting pools. He also did carpentry work. He was a person who never met a stranger, he was always willing to help in any way he could. Preceding him in death are his parents and a sister Peggy Conaway Cedeno. He leaves to cherish many fond memories to his wife of fifty-seven years, Pastor Naomi Conaway of Lumber City, Ga; His children: Retired SSG Eddie Lee (Minister Janice) Conaway, Jr. of Lumber City, GA; Minister Rashaan Omar (Tabithia) Conaway of Atlanta, GA; Elder Schnina (Elder Michael) Walker of New Castle, Delaware; Christopher Conaway of Lumber City, GA. and Dondrea Geter of Alamo, Georgia. 17 Grandchildren and 8 great grands. He and Naomi became parents to his younger siblings after the death of their parents: Christine (Pete) Way of Atlanta, GA; Claudia Robinson of Glenwood, GA; Freddie (Carolyn) Conaway of Vidalia, GA; Ethridge Conaway of Atlanta, GA; and Reverend Joyce (Harvey) Batten of McRae, GA. Joel "Ronnie" Conaway of New Jersey. His brothers: Aaron Conaway of Lumber City, GA; Samuel (Linda) Conaway and Franklin "Wyzing" (Carmel) Conaway of New Jersey. His sisters: Mary Ann Woodard and Evangelist Minnie (Isaac) Fulton, both of Lumber City, GA; and Marlena B. Bess of Hazlehurst, GA. He leaves many precious memories to a host of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
