Mr. Elroy L. Day, Jr., 68, of Walthourville, Ga. passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Ga. Mr. Elroy Leon Day, Jr. packed his suitcase and purchased his ticket to make his journey. On Wednesday, March 10, 2010, he bid this life goodbye, he fought a good fight but his body was tired, and he was ready for his final destination. Mr. Elroy Leon Day, Jr. was born on October 4, 1941, in Scotts, Mississippi to the proud parents of Margie Harper and Elroy Day, Sr. Early on Life he accepted Christ as his personal savior. He was a member of Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church. He is a graduate of Coleman High School in Greenville, Mississippi and a member of the Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church in Hinesville, Ga. Upon graduation he joined the military and served his country with pride and honor. He earned the Army of Occupation Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, The armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, The Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), Expert Rifle- M16A1 Award. He worked many years as a Civil Service employee and he was employed with the Long County Board of Commissioners as a Recycle Site Manager until his death. He was 32 degree Mason and he enjoyed his life to the fullest. He leaves to cherish a loving and dedicated wife Mrs. Claudette Day; seven children Antwane Day, Shonnetta Downer, Hinesville, Ga., Terrance Day, Sr., Birmingham Alabama; Derrick Tolbert, Jacksonville, Florida, Tiffany Brown, Kessler, AFB; Delando Watts, and Deborah Watts of Birmingham, Alabama. A number of grandchildren, six brothers and sisters Cheryl Robinson, Houston, Texas, Gerald Day, Washington, D.C., Ricky Day, and Billy Brown, Atlanta, Ga., Jacqueline Mack, Chicago, Illinois, Olivia Carter, Greenville, Mississippi. Sister-in-law Claretha Belcher, Atlanta, Ga. Brother-in-law Tyrone Sykes, Walthourville, Ga. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church in Hinesville, Ga. The internment will be held at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, Ga. Wake Services will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at the Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church in Hinesville, Ga. from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. King & Sons Funeral Home of Glennville, Ga. is in charge of arrangements.'
