Ethel Mae Norward

August 25, 1948 — April 22, 2024

Mrs. Ethel Mae Green Norward was born to the late Mr Lenue and Mrs Lendy Bell Green in Devereux, GA on August 25, 1948. She was the second of eleven children. Ethel earned her wings on April 22, 2024, after an extended illness. Her parents Lenue and Lendy Bell, one sister, Mamie Edwards, one brother, Jessie Thomas Green, two nieces, Charlene Denise Edwards, and Lendy Faith Hunter and one nephew, Brandon Keyshawn Green preceded her death.

Ethel attended church with her family regularly at Hunts Chapel AME, Sparta, GA. After moving to Lyons, GA, she joined St Luke AME Church and gave her life to the Lord at an early age. She continued her faithful service in ministry after high school graduation at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church after arrival in New Haven, CT. She moved to Claxton, GA after marrying Ulysses Norward in 2001. She and her new husband joined First AB of Glennville, GA. In 2013, they as a family decided to move their membership to St Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Daisey community where she served faithfully as a deaconess until her illness limited her attendance.

Ethel's education started at Sparta GA colored school and continued at Lions Industrial High School. She graduated with her diploma in 1967. After graduation, she moved to New Haven, CT where she lived with her sister, Mamie Edwards for a few years. Mamie and Ethel eventually became best friends for life. Ethel had a zest for knowledge and loved sharing that knowledge with people. She continued her education at Gateway College and completed a four-year degree in accounting. She was always attending workshops and seminars to increase her ability to share and give back to her beloved community. Ethel was an intricate part of Lions Industrial Reunion Committee to promote education about the legacy and history of LIH.

Ethel leaves to mourn her cherished memories, a loving and devoted husband, Ulysses Norward; godson/nephew, Tony Hunter, II; five sisters, Carolyn Simmons (Marvin Sr Jacksonville, FL; Carrie Mobley (Royce), St Johns, FL; Olean Daniels (Willie), Frisco, TX; Shirley Green, Lyons, GA and Betty Hunter, Guyton, GA; three brothers, Curtis Green (Karen) Rincon, GA, Jimmy Green (Jennifer), Grovetown, GA; and Alvin (Len) Green, Port Wentworth, GA; one step daughter, Jaquetta Thomas (Rufus) and one step son, Donnie Webster, Savannah, GA.
