Taressa Hollis Carr entered eternally rest on Saturday, February 29, 2020, while a patient at the East Georgia Regional Hospital in Statesboro, GA. She was born on June 9, 1959 to the late Maude Hollis and Arthur Kennedy in Lumber City, Georgia.
After the death of her parents, she was raised by her brother, Bishop William Hollis and his wife, Elect Lady Estella Hollis. She graduated from the Telfair County School System. She entered Holy Matrimony with Pastor Jonathan Maxell Carr and through this marriage, two sons – Calvin and Cornelius - were born.
She was a faithful member of the Full Gospel Church of God in Lumber City, Georgia, where she served in various positions. She was the drum beater for the church. She was the Sunday School teacher for the Junior Class. She was one of the Choir Directors. She was a graduate of the Full Gospel School of Ministry. She was the Elect Lady of the Alamo Full Gospel Church of God and the Solid Rock Full Gospel Church of God in Norwalk, Connecticut.
As an anointed and gifted singer, she sang many beautiful songs which blessed others. Some of her favorite songs were "I have a Anyhow Praise," Amazing Grace", "Show Me the Way", "I've Learned How to Live Holy," and "Sweeping Though the City."
She was called to preach the Gospel of Jesus at an early age. Two of her favorite Bible passages was the story of Job, which dealt with suffering and trouble and the story of Jonah, tryiShe had a special love for her family, especially the grand children, who were her heart. She loved to cook and bake different specialty dishes for her family. Some of her favorite dishes were the homemade Red Velvet Cake with the nuts in the layers and different variety of pasta salads, especially "Connecticut style" ziti. Her love for her family exceeded to others, for she was a babysitter for many families, both in Connecticut and Georgia. These children loved her dearly for her love and the care she gave them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings: Willie B. Hollis, Sampson (Stella Mae) Hollis, Shirley Hollis Young, Genette Shirley Harvey, Diane (Robert) Stegall, John Earl (Joyce) Hollis and Mary (L. C.) Allen.
She leaves precious memories to her husband, Jonathan Maxell Carr of Lumber City, GA; Sons: Cornelius (Latoria) Carr of Vidalia, GA and Calvin (Lori) Carr of Douglas, GA; Daughter: Vernesia McMinns of Chiefland, FL; Stepsons: Wayne, Malcom, Antonio, and Derrick Carr, all of Hazlehurst, GA and a host of grandchildren, whom she adored greatly. Her Siblings: Bishop William (Elect Lady Estella) Hollis of Lumber City, Georgia; Alonza (Shirley) Hollis of Tupelo, MS; Celestine (Winfred) Robinson of Lumber City, GA; Patricia (Hirosha) Thomas of Hazlehurst, GA, and Janice (Eddie, Jr.) Conaway of Lumber City, GA. Brothers-in-law: Pastor James Cornish and Terry Jones, both of Hazlehurst, GA; and Michael Harvey of Lumber City, GA. A sister-in-law, Runnell Hollis of Jacksonville, FL.
Aunts and uncles: Janie May Haynes of Lumber City, GA; Essie Mae Stegall of Fulton, MS; Daughtery Hollis of Cleveland, OH; Earnest (Dorothy) Hollis of Cleveland, OH and James (Betty) Hollis of Tupelo, MS. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many devoted and caring friends, who will miss her greatly.
