Gene Autry Carter

June 22, 1940 — August 23, 2020

Mr. Gene Carter was born June 22, 1940 to Mr. Hershal Smith and Ms. Carolina (Carrie) Carter which both preceded him in death. He was raised by Mr. Fred L. Carter, his maternal grandfather who also preceded him in death. Mr. Carter attended Tattnall County High School and graduated in 1958. He played basketball, football, ran track, and boxed. He was fondly known as "Lefty" and was awarded an academic scholarship to Medical College. He played the drums, organ, piano, lead guitar, and bass guitar. He was Sunday School Superintendent while attending church with his grandmother. Later, he married Ms. Maggie Stovall Carter and had two daughters, Ms. Mary E. Neal and Ms. Eugenia Carter Inman. He leaves behind one brother, Mr. Rudolph V. Carter and sister in law, Ms. Cecelia B. Carter. Ten grandchildren; Mr. Rome C. Carter, Mr. Desmond C. Carter, Mr. Raymont C. Carter, Ms. Raylonda Carter, Mr. Devon Christian, Mr. Will F. Cantrell, Mr. Prentice M. Beauchamp, Mr. Sergio B. Beauchamp aslo Mrs. Kentoya J. S. Cooper (Beauchamp). Grandson, Mr. Malcom B. Beauchamp preceded him in death. More that twenty great grandchildren and one great-great grandson and a host of other family members along with special friends.
