Mrs.Glendie Boyd was born in Lumber City, Ga on July 16,1944 to the late Leola Kemp.
Mrs.Boyd married John Boyd in 1968 and 2 children were born. One preceded her in death, Laterra. She joined St, John Baptist Church at an early age, and remained there until 1970. Mrs.Boyd received her early education in Telfair County at Lumber City Elementary and Central High School (1962) McRae, Ga. She later attended Bethune Cookman College (1962), Savannah State College (1963-66), and Georgia Southern College (1977).
Mr. and Mrs.Boyd moved to Miami,Fl in 1970 after teaching at Central High School 1966-1970. Mrs.Boyd worked at three junior High Schools in Dade County, Westview, Vinloch, and JFK where she retired in 2000.
She received many awards in her lifetime such as Teacher of the Year(1992) and Science Teacher of the Year (1996). Mrs.Boyd joined New Way Baptist Church in 1978 and transferred her membership to Greater Love Baptist Church in 2005. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta and Eastern Star.
After retiring she went back to college and received a degree in Funeral Services in 2002. She worked at E.A. Stevens Funeral Home in Hallandale, Fl. until she had trouble with her eyes.
She leaves to mourn her memories one loving and devoted son, John Boyd (Nora) of Miami, Fl; two devoted nephews, Charles Chatman (Alfreda) of Eastman, GA and Marcus Elmo Chatman (Leslie) of Americus, GA; two sisters, Mrs.Annette Johnson (Robert) of Augusta, GA. and Ms.Jestine Cochran (Larry) of Ladson, SC; two brothers, Dr.Thomas Clark (Andre) of Augusta, GA; and Mr.Frank Mitchell (Vera) of Lumber City, GA; a devoted cousin, Mrs.Eddie Mae Sturgis of Dorchester, MA; Sister-in-Law, Mrs.Alice Strong of Lumber City, GA; Mrs.Mamie Schift of Detroit, MI; Ms.Essie Boyd of Detroit, MI; Ms.Willie Mae Boyd of Lumber City, GA; Brother-in-Law, Mr.Charlie Frank Boyd of Lumber City, GA; Mr.Wesley Boyd of Lumber City, GA; Devoted friends, Minister Vernice Long of Atlanta, GA; Mrs.Joyce Sweeting of Decatur, GA; Mrs.Lee Harris of Uniontown, PA; Mrs.Gertha Whitehead of Miami FL and Mr. and Mrs.King of Miami, FL; one uncle, Rev. Elijah Clark (Thelma) of Alamo, GA; a loving God-daughter, Lashawn Burgess and her husband, Shawn Burgess of Miami, FL. a host of friends, Mrs.Long, Mr.Maurice Dixon, Demetris Bass, of Miami, FL; Willy Williams (Willie Mae) and Gizelle McPhee.
Mama, you will be greatly missed. You are in the bosom of Jesus Christ.
