J B Smith

September 28, 1936 — February 14, 2024

A native of Lumber City, Georgia, JB Smith transitioned on to his new heavenly home on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. He was born in Glenwood, Georgia on September 28, 1936, to the late Theodore Roosevelt Smith, Sr. and NeDora W. Smith in Lumber City, Georgia.

JB graduated from Jordan McArthur High School with High Honors in 1954. Shortly after graduating from High School, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Pennsylvania with a detachment from the 101st Airborne Division.

During his tour of duty in the US Army, he married the late Myrtice Strong in 1956. Through this marriage, they had six children: James B., Reginald, Derek, Lisa S., Erica D., and Eric Smith. After retiring from All Metal Inc., in Mountainside, NJ, he moved to Gulfport, MS, and later to Lumber City, GA.

JB enjoyed laughing and sharing good jokes and stories with friends and family. His hobbies included making model planes, making tools for the family to use, and watching his favorite TV shows: Combat, Perry Mason, the Lone Ranger, and Westerns. JB was a very quiet and strong man with a huge heart for humanity.

Preceding in his death are his parents; his wife Myrtice Smith; three brothers: George R. King, Theodore R. Smith, and John W. Smith; three sisters: Irene Burse, Blanche Clayton, and Dora Mae Conaway; sisters-in-law, Mildred Clark and Dorothy Peterson; and a brother-in-law, Rev. Augustus Strong.

JB leaves to cherish his loving memories, Four sons: James B (Robin), Reginald (Valerie), Derek (Donna), Eric (Safiyyah); Two daughters, Lisa (Gregson), Erica and thirteen Grandchildren and two great Grandchildren. He leaves precious memories to two sisters, Rosa L. Holliman of Jacksonville, FL and Lucy M. Solomon of Baxley, GA; Sisters in Law: Bernice Smith, Cheryl Smith, Martha Strong, Essie Murphy, Jackie Pledge, Linda Strong, Sandra Davis; Brothers in Law, James Strong and Joseph Strong. Special nephew: Frankie Conaway; a loving caregiver, Evangelist Alma Haynes; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
