Joe W. Williams was born the fourth of eleven children on November 17, 1941, in Tattnall County, Glennville, GA to the late Will and Olera Williams. Four of his siblings preceded him in passing.
Joe attended Tattnall County High School, during this time he was very active in sports and was a drum major in the school marching band. After graduation, he attended Barber-Scotia College in North Carolina. He later enlisted in the United States Army, where he served from January 10, 1964, to January 9, 1966, during the Vietnam War. Upon completing his military service, he moved to New York where he worked for General Motors for over 30 years before he retired and relocated to Plantations, Florida. While there he worked for the Broward County School System until he retired.
He gave his life to the Lord at an early age and joined the Church of God in Collins, GA. Upon relocating to Plantations, FL he became a member of the 15th Avenue Church of God where he served faithfully for many years before relocating to Atlanta, GA. Anyone who spent time with Joe would witness firsthand his selflessness and generosity which had a positive impact on many. He was a loving and devoted father, brother, and friend to all who knew him. He also loved his church family and dedicated much of his life to the service of others.
He departed this life on Monday, January 15, 2024, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory, three sons, Joe Williams, Keith Williams, and Robert Williams; two daughters Loretta Williams and Jylisa Williams; one stepdaughter Lawanda Robinson; five sisters Ocilla Jackson, Lizzie Dell Miller, Jannie Hillian, Deloris Redding, and Lavern Relaford; and one brother Robert Williams; 8 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
