Mr. John Curtis (J.C.) Smith, 82, of Glennville, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville, Georgia.
John Curtis Smith was born in Wayne County, to the late Paul and Sally Smith on February 12, of the year 1928. Promised three scores and ten and blessed with twelve more, his journey was complete as the Father called him home, June 22, 2010. He blissfully spent sixty-two of those years with the love of his life, Ida Mae Roberson Smith, raising fourteen children. Blessings overflowed as he lived to see his children grown, most of his grandchildren grown and to welcome the third generation of his legacy. His memory, his teaching, and his love will last forever.
His life has been anointed since that day, as he was working alone in the woods, and the Father's voice spoke to his soul. In 1962, under the guidance of Elder and Mother Aaron Wilcox, he accepted Christ into his heart and became a member of the Church of Christ. He preached the word of gospel in the White Pines and Sand Hill Communities fulfilling his mission in life to save souls. There were times that the congregation consisted of just his wife and children. To please the King, he preached to glorify Him and could shake the rafters. His final days were spent encouraging and uplifting his wife and family. He said that he was 'packed and ready to go and waiting on the Lord'.
He has seen some of this country's worst times and was blessed to see some of its greatest. He was educated in the Tattnall County School System and as a young man he honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He taught his family the value of hard work and honest living by setting the example. He was employed in many fields to include turpentine and sap, farming, woodworking and working in the saw mills.
He was preceded in death by two sons: John Calvin Smith and Byron Colson Smith; his sisters Rosa L. Middleton and Willie Mae Rhodes and his only brother Nathan Smith, and daughter-in-law Betty Smith.
To cherish his memory and to continue his legacy he leaves his loving wife, Ida Mae Roberson Smith and twelve children: Larry Smith, Jesup, GA; Barry (Cathy) Smith, Homestead, FL; Thernell (Beverly) Smith, Statesboro, GA; Leon Smith, Glennville, GA; Jerry (Johnnie) Smith, Montgomery, AL; Joe (Antoinette) Smith, Jacksonville, FL; Laverne Jordan, Glennville, GA; Louvanda Harvey, Hinesville, GA; Gaynell (Alfred) Kimbro, Cincinnati, OH; Barbara Parrish, Glennville, GA; Terry(Tommie) Whitfield, Blackshear, GA; and Angela (John) Tillman, Glennville, GA; and a special daughter-in-law Aggalene Smith, Seattle, WA. Brothers in Law: Eugene Roberson, Trenton, NJ; Johnny (Mary) Roberson, Jr., Hartesville, SC; Gaston Roberson, Orangeburg, SC; Rufus Roberson, Glennville, GA; and Leroy Roberson, Trenton, NJ.
