John Edward Scurry was born on March 13,
1958, in Fort Myers, Florida to the union of
the late John, Sr. and Mary Scurry.
John attended Lee County Public Schools
and graduated with the Class of 1976 from
Fort Myers High School. While in Ft.
Myers, John was a hardworking young man.
He was a truck driver for many years at
House of Medulla. He eventually moved to
Hazlehurst Georgia and was employed at
Miles Machine Shop.
John enjoyed family and friends. He had a
jovial and infectious spirit, which caused
him to be loved by many others.
John departed this life on February 20, 2025,
at the Lumber City Nursing Facility in
Lumber City, Georgia. He was preceded in
death by his parents: John, Sr. and Mary
Ruth Scurry; sister, Julia Williams;
grandparents, Henderson and Elmae Scurry,
and Moses and Mayola Cooper; uncle:
Jimmy Scurry; special classmate: David Lee
Fulcher.
John will be remembered in love by his
family, two daughters: Kenisha Scurry
and Jennifer Brown, both of Fort Myers,
Florida; two sisters: Yvette Scurry and
Michelle (Tyron) McCarter; both of Ft.
Myers, Florida; two brothers: Sammy
(Erma) Scurry and Charles (Angie) Smith,
both of Ft. Myers, Florida; seven
grandchildren and two great-children; one
special aunt: Jared Scurry of Hazlehurst,
Georgia; three dedicated friends: Val
Bennett, Crystal Smith and Ann Smith, all
of Hazlehurst, Georgia; one devoted
classmate: Woody McCarter of Fort
Myers, Florida; and a host of aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other
relatives and dear friends.
