Lillian Coleman

April 19, 1927 — July 14, 2008

Mrs. Lillian Coleman, 81, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2008 at Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville, Georgia after an extended illness. Mrs. Lillian Coleman was born on April 19, 1927, the third of seven children to Rufus L. and Sarah Moody in Liberty County, GA. While four of her siblings John, Emory, Reginald, and Elizabeth have since gone to be with the Lord, her brother Rufus and his wife Lizzie live in Glennville, Georgia, and her youngest sister Wynette Bradford and her husband James live in Slugsburg, New York. Lillian was educated in the Tattnall County School System. At an early age she became a member of the First African Baptist Church in Glennville, GA. She was also employed by the school system until she decided to go into business for herself. In 1946 Lillian took on the role of a wife when she married George Earnest King (he preceded her in death in March 2008). To that union eight wonderful children were born: George, Wyndall, and Angelyn (also preceded her in death). Marilyn who lives in Glennville, GA is thought to be the favorite was with her until the final curtain call. Rufus (Carol Jean), Margaret King Drinks, she called her 'Cotton' (don't ask, it's a long story how she came up with that name), James Earnest 'Peaty' (Ilene) and William Cornelius 'Neal' (Sharon) live in Stone Mountain, GA. As a mother she yet took on other roles, she was a seamstress, making Easter dresses, and even Rhythm Band uniforms (you'll have to ask Peaty about that). She was a strong disciplinarian, and believed that everybody should be treated with respect. Her favorite saying was 'I can't make you like nobody, but you're going to respect everybody'. Later she married Charles Coleman, who we lovingly called 'Big Daddy'. (Big Daddy was called to be with the Lord April 2006). To that union came four fabulous children; Henry Edward (Connie) of Lawrenceville, GA, Diane Denise 'Niscey' Roberts (James Ivy), Sarah Wilcox 'Bull' (Louis) and Charles 'Mullah' (Cheryl Denise McMillan) also resides in Glennville, and was there with watchful eyes until her final stage call. While a resident at the Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville, Georgia under the care of the Ogeechee Area Hospice, Lillian 'Muh' (that is how she best known) played her final role as a fighter. On July 14, 2008 approximately 4:00 p.m. after a long illness, it pleased the Lord to call her home. Along with her children and two siblings, she leaves to cherish her memories over thirty grandchildren and a host of great-grands, nieces, nephews and friends. And needless to say a special part of her extended family who has been with her from the beginning to the end; offering prayers, and giving support when needed: Ruben and Novella King and Pinkie Mae and Willie Brown, Anne J. Lett and Gene Bennett of Glennville; Zadine Walker and Bernice Collins of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Visitation is from 11:00am - 7:00pm at King and Son's Funeral Home in Glennville, Ga. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 1:00pm at Center of Life Church of God in Glennville, Georgia with burial in the Glennville City Cemtery.
