Ms. Lucille Sanders was born to the late Daisy B. Etta Hall and William Henry "Joe" Sanders on
August 21, 1939 in Long County, GA. She transitioned to eternal rest on June 24, 2023 at East
Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, GA. Lucille received formal education in the
Long County School system. At an early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and first
joined Greater Zachariah Missionary Baptist Church (Halltown), eventually transitioning to join
New Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where she attended and served faithfully until her
health declined in recent years.
Lucille worked for many years in housekeeping as well as at Glenvue Nursing Home until her
early retirement. She was a very down to earth family woman who enjoyed fishing, cooking and
baking, gaming, watching Western shows, soap operas, "In the Heat of the Night," and, most of
all, sewing. She was loved by many and is affectionately known as "mama" to many in the
community. She is preceded in death by her parents, two children, Richard and Cynthia, and
siblings, Irene Hill, William Henry "WC" Sanders, Laura Mitchell, Corine White, Geneva Sanders,
Mary Strickland, and Simon Sanders.
Her beautiful, impactful legacy will be forever cherished in the lives of one brother, Joe Sanders;
three children, Betty Regina Williams, Sarah Ann Nesbitt (Trenton), and Ernest Jeffery Wilcox
(Priscilla); seven grandchildren, Gregory Lavell Griffin, Charley Louis Williams, Jr., Richard
Bernard Williams, Kevin Demarcus Williams, Alvin Lashawn Williams, Kenyetta Marie NesbittSimmons (Dontravious), and Stephon Latray Nesbitt; three great-grandchildren, Malazia
Williams, Chaniya Williams, and William Wells; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
