Madie Berry Anderson

January 1, 1940 — September 24, 2021

Madie Almetta Berry Anderson, age 81, died at her home on Friday morning, September 24, 2021, of natural causes. She was born January 1, 1940 in Glennville, Georgia, to Fairbanks Arnold Berry, Sr. and Desiree Smith Berry, both of whom preceded her in death. She was the eighth child of sixteen children. Madie graduated from Walker High School in Ludowici, Georgia and went on to attend Savannah State University where she received her associates degree. Madie met her husband, SFC Stanley Everton Anderson, while he was stationed in Fort Stewart, Georgia. Stanley married a beautiful and feisty young lady and together they formed a family that produced two lovely daughters: Madina and Micshon. Madie worked several jobs while traveling the world with her love. After settling down in Glennville, Madie worked for the Long County Board of Education as a Paraprofessional for more than 20 years before retiring. Madie loved education. She enjoyed molding young minds to be the best they could be and preparing them for the world. Although she was stern in her delivery, love was always her intent. She loved all her students. Madie was a member of St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church where she developed her love for music and song. She exercised her love for music by assisting her husband, Stanley, with the music ministry for many years. In September 2000, St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church recognized Madie for her faithful and dedicated service and involvement in the "Sunshine Choir." Madie loved teaching her granddaughter, nieces and nephews new songs they could perform for the congregation. She was also a devoted member of the Laurel Growth Chapter #118 Order of Eastern Star in Ludowici. Madie is survived by her beloved daughter, Micshon Denise Anderson; two granddaughters, Octavia Alexis Anderson Ricks (Antonio Antoine Ricks, Sr.) and Kasha Arlene Anderson; three great grandsons: Antonio Antoine Ricks II (AJ), Adrian Amare Ricks and Andrew Armond Ricks (Drew); one great-granddaughter, Storee Tiara Ricks; god-son Leander Lamar Berry; five brothers: Curtis Berry (Sarah Berry), Warren Berry (Valerie Berry), Fairbanks Berry, Jr., Levy Berry (Shirley Berry), Alton Berry (Gwendolyn Berry); three sisters: Edna Berry, Bernita Berry and Christine Berry. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that she loved dearly. Preceding her in death are her parents, Fairbanks Arnold Berry, Sr. and Desiree Smith Berry; daughter, Madina Antoinette Anderson; three sisters: Geraldine Berry, Louise Berry Richardson (Henry Richardson) and Marjorie Berry; four brothers: Arthur Berry (Evelyn Berry), William Berry (Jackie Berry), Earl Berry (Mary Berry) and Bernard Berry (Betty Berry). As we lay Madie's physical body to rest, her presence remains with us through her gift of lineages. Her legacy will live on, through them, in progression for the world to witness their beauty.
