Mary Dell Scott Williams was born on May 3, 1953, in rural Tattnall County, Georgia. Her early years were spent living on a farm until her family was blessed to own their own home in 1962. She resided with her mother Marzie Dekle Scott Lavant and the man she would best know as a father James A. Lavant. She attended Tattnall County Public Schools until the 11th grade and then moved to Florida to live with her eldest sister Gladys Scott Brown and graduated from Stranahan High School in Ft. Lauderdale. At an early age, Mary accepted Christ as her personal Savior and walked with Him hand and hand throughout her life. In her early years of life, she was a devoted member of Zion Temple Church of Christ in Glennville, Georgia. She later moved her membership to Mt. Zion Outreach Ministries in Glennville, Georgia where she served faithfully until God called her home. While worshipping at Mt. Zion Outreach Ministries, she served in many roles. She loved serving as an attentive and welcoming usher, a deaconess, and a devoted Armor Bearer. She really cherished her time serving on the Food and Hospitality Ministry.
In 1979, Mary met the love of her life John Jeff Williams Jr., and they were joined in Holy Matrimony in a small ceremony amongst family and friends on November 27, 1982. To this union, four beautiful children were raised (Renee, Lori, John, and Jeff), and they had a hand in raising many more children. Mary loved children, and children adored her.
Mary was an amazing wife, daughter, mother, sister, and friend. She cared for both of her aging parents before their departure, as well as a brother, and other family members. Mary loved and adored all the children she raised. She encouraged them to dream big, to see what was outside of small-town Glennville, and to always do their best. She loved them beyond measure. Mary and John shared an amazing life together, raising their family in a home filled with love. He was truly "her man, her man, her man" and she referred to him lovingly as "Daddy.
" Upon graduating high school, Mary returned to her hometown Glennville, GA, where she would hold several jobs. Mary had many talents. She was an amazing cook and baker, but she was most talented with her hands. Mary loved sewing and taking after her mother, she began to hone her craft. Getting to the level where she would be deemed a seamstress. She loved sewing clothes, especially for her family and friends. Mary worked as a seamstress on Ft.
