Affectionately known as MC to many was, the son of the late Rubie Johnson. He was born in Yazoo City, Mississippi on January 23, 1944. MC attended a segregated black Catholic school that was founded by Sister Thea Bowman until he moved with his mother to New Orleans, Louisiana.
As a young man, MC moved to Fort Myers, Florida to work with the canning company Green Giant, It was there that he met his late wife Barbara Smith Johnson, MC followed Barbara back to Georgia where he became employed with Hazlehurst Mills in 1973 until 2006.
MC's favorite pastime was spending as much time as he could with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Thanks to the big Ally Cat Van many people became acutely aware of MC's mild mannered ways and comical conversations. McKinley's infectious character touched everyone that he met...especially when he would hit you with his signature smirk.
Mckinley quietly departed this life on July 23, 2025 at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida with his daughter by his side as he son was en route.
The Life and Legacy of MC will be forever cherished by his son: Marcus Johnson, Decatur, GA; daughters:
Jolene Johnson, McRae, GA and Terry (Joshua) Romero, Hazlehurst, GA; grandchildren: Tamikal, Keiondra, Destanie, Malina, Janessa, Erica, Reiana, Malachi, McKenzie, Alex, Lisa, Chelsea, Juday, Indunesha, Aryssa and Ethan; great grandchildren: Micah, Elijah and Christian.
