Mellie Ruth Brown, 86, transitioned into the loving arms of God on Friday, August 21, 2020 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born on January 21, 1934 to the late Herschel and Avis Johnson Braggs. She was a native of Tattnall County and educated in the Glennville Colored School System. She was employed by Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville for many years before becoming a homemaker. At a young age, she joined Greater Zachariah Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined the Smith Street Church of God now known as Evening Light Reformation Church of God where she was an usher, church treasurer and head cook.
Mellie Ruth loved to cook and bake. She had a joyful and welcoming spirit for people and met no strangers. She loved everyone as if they were her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Willie, her daughter Lillie Joyce Brown and six grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Daniel Brown of Glennville; Daughters, Rebecca Williams, Priscilla Brown, Pamela Brown and Tonja Brown all of Glennville, Diane Knight of Hinesville; Sons, Hercules (Shirley) Eason of Sanford FL., Earl Brown of Reidsville, Terry (Lucille) Brown of Pooler, Erick (Mae) Brown and Patrick Brown of Glennville; Sister-in-laws, Dr. Eva P. (Michael) Jordan of Glennville, Betty B. (James) Davis of Statesboro; God daughter, Marilyn Grant and God son, Daryl Travis Dean; 35 grandchildren; a host of great and great-great grands; a host of nieces and nephews. A special caregiver Deborah Thomas Black.
