Romenia Olivia Burnette Tompkins was born on November 4, 1945 to the late Henry Bradley Burnette and Ida Mae Bess Burnette. In this family were eight children. Preceding her in death was Henry Melvin Burnette, Gary Bradley Burnette, and Zarbara Delinda Burnette King Dennis.
Romenia accepted Christ at an early age and joined Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Lumber City, GA.
She graduated high school, class of 1965, from Wheeler County High School, Alamo, GA. She further her education at Harris Trade School, now known as Savannah Technical College, for two years majoring in Business Education.
Romenia moved to Newark, New Jersey and worked at the Newark Veteran Regional Hospital as a Nurse Assist. As a result of her exceptional skill, she was able to continue her nursing education. She always wanted to be a nurse. After many years in Newark, New Jersey, she moved to Miami, Florida and started working at the Miami Veteran Medical Center. Romenia met and married Roger Tompkins of Miami, Florida. She continued studying nursing and received a degree as a LPN. While there she joined Grace of God Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Mark Coats, pastor, and worked in the nursing ministry at the church. After 35 years of dedicated service, Romenia retired from the Miami Veteran Medical Center. She touch so many lives and had many long-lasting friendships. She also worked years in Miami doing personal care. After retirement Romenia moved back home to Alamo, GA. She continued her journey serving the Lord and rejoined Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church and began working diligently in the Usher Ministry and Food Service Ministry. She also joined a social club: All Woman United.
On Wednesday, June 30, 2021, Romenia was called from labor to be rewarded by her heavenly Father.
She leaves to cherish her memories, further her legacy, and carry on her spirit: Vernell B. God Children Nekesha, Lamar, and Kasmere Quinn, Country Club Hill, IL; and Jasmine Jackson Lithonia, GA; a Special niece KaLia Burnette, Birmingham, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and an array of friends.
