Rosa E. “Rose” Coleman was born on December 18, 1933, to John and Sadie Harris in Alston, Georgia. She was the oldest of 10 children. After completing high school, she moved to Miami, where she began a fulfilling career with JCPenney as a bookkeeper, a position she held with pride until her retirement.
As a young adult, Rosa married Harold E. Beard in 1952, and together they welcomed two daughters, Evelyn and Marsha. Rosa later returned to Alston, Georgia, where in 1971 she reunited with the love of her life, Horace Lee Coleman. They married and shared a devoted union until his passing.
Upon returning home, she reconnected with her beloved Mt. Calvary Church, where she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher, missionary, and member of the Usher Board. Rosa’s unwavering faith guided every chapter of her life. She eventually became the matriarch and historian of the Harris Family. A true force of nature, Rosa strengthened family bonds and played a vital role in leading the Roundtree Harris McArthur Family Reunion each year. Known for her confidence, grace, and strong presence, she embraced who she was wholeheartedly. She lovingly cared for those around her and was a cherished surrogate grandmother to many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her siblings John Harris, Robert Harris, Sarah Baker, James Harris, and Frankie Drummer. Rosa E. Coleman is survived by her daughters, Evelyn Beard and Marsha Beard, both of Huntsville, AL. And her Godchild, Rodney Siplin of Miami, FL. She also leaves to cherish her memory, her brother Joseph (Gertrude) Harris and sisters, Jeanette Cummings, Georgia Harris, and Ida Harris. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
