Ruth Porter

Mrs. Ruth Porter age 83, passed into eternity on January 17, 2008 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, Ga. She was born in Liberty County on May 5, 1924. She lived most of her life in Tattnall County. She owned and operated Ruth Beauty Salon for many years and was member of St. James AME Church in Glennville, Ga. She served in numberous offices over her years of attendance, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, Class Leader, and Cheif Musician. She also played the piano for a number of churches in the surrounding counties. Surviving are three daughters Versaline Williams, Classine Porter, and Lillian Clowers. One son Narcellus Porter. One step-daughter Dorothy Porter, one daughter-in-law Elizabeth Porter, one son-in-law Bishop Ernest Clowers. Forty-four grandchildren, forty-one great-grand children and four great-great-grand children, several nieces nephews, and other relatives and friends. A special wake/musical program will be held on Friday January 25, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at St. James AME Church in Glennville, Ga. Funeral service will be held Saturday January 26, 2008 at 11:00 am at St. James AME Church. Burial will be in the Glennville City Cemetery.
