Sherman Devon Wright was born on December 28, 1939, in Ludowici, GA to the late Maggie D. Wright. Sherman was famously known as “Devon”. He attended Astro School followed by Walker High School.
As a young man he spent his time working on the farms and in the church. He joined Macedonia Church and First AB and was a member of several ministries. He spent most of his life in Long County but did spend some time in Philadelphia working as a chef before he met his better half, Judith Ann. Their young love started when they met at his father in law’s house and continued growing for 66 years until his beloved departed in 2003. He and his wife owned multiple businesses in their lifetime, including the club, Wright’s Playhouse, and the Wright’s Trailer Park. Devon spent most of his life working as a taxi driver along with Interstate Paper Mill in Riceboro, Georgia until he retired after 35 years. After retirement, Devon would spend his time at the Time Saver every morning to drink coffee with the fellas. Then proceed with maintaining the farm and making dinner for his family.
In his later years Devon loved and enjoyed sitting on his porch watching the cars go by while scratching off his numbers with his great grand furbabies, the occasional McDonalds fries and Coke, Friday fish nights, and World Wrestling Entertainment nights.
Devon took his rest on May 20th of 2026 and was greeted on the other side by his late wife, Judith Ann, son, Ben Earl, and host of other family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memories and legacy three beautiful daughters and a son: Judith “Skeeter” Wright, Laurinda “Michelle” Wright, Shontel Wright, and Art Wright. Three gorgeous granddaughters: Latoya Green, Terri Bracey, and Kajsa “Kay” Durant. Six grandsons: Germaine Scott, Kqumane Grant, Daniel Durant, Joseph “Jerall” Durant, Jacob “Jerold” Durant, and J’Aleel Braggs. Three sisters: Suzette (Herbert) Jordan, Regina Williams, and Sarah Nesbitt. Three brothers: Thomas “TJ” (Betty) Nesbitt, James “Ulysses” Nesbitt, and Alvin Nesbitt.
