Stephen Moore

Stephen "Stevie" Moore departed this life on August 12, 2026. He was born on February 2, 1956, to Cleo Lewis and Dutchie Moore, Sr.

Stephen was educated in Tattnall County, graduating from Glennville High School in 1975, before furthering his education at Albany State College. He went on to answer the call of duty, honorably serving in the United States Army and retiring after more than two decades of service. Continuing his commitment to public safety, Stephen later embarked on a second career with the Georgia Department of Corrections, from which he also retired. Stephen was united in holy matrimony with Rhonda Williams, and from this union, two sons, Isaiah and Joseph Moore.

Stephen's spiritual journey began at Greater Zachariah Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. T.J. Lynch, where his belief in Christ was firmly planted and nurtured under Rev. Charlie Anderson. He later found a church home at Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Collins, Georgia, under the Reverend Otto Lewis. As an active and faithful member, Stephen possessed a big heart. He was a trusted listening ear, an encourager, and a source of strength to many, always striving to leave every person better than he found them.

Stephen's passion for athletics spanned his entire life. Having competed and excelled at football, basketball, and baseball, he was a true sports enthusiast. He stood faithfully behind the Georgia Bulldogs through every season and cheered on the Kansas City Chiefs and the Atlanta Falcons. When he wasn't watching a game, Stephen enjoyed spending time out on the water fishing, which was one of his favorite pastimes.

In addition to his parents, Stephen was preceded in death by his son, Isaiah, and brothers, Dutchie More and Ivey Murphy. 

He leaves to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy: his son, Joseph X. Moore (Ludowici, GA); grandson, Joseph M. Moore-Esparza (Swainsboro, GA); brothers, Jamie Murphy and John L. (Donishia) Moore Sr. (New Orleans, LA); sisters, Sharon Moore and Janet Moore (Glennville, GA) and Darnie (Perry) Hampton (Hinesville, GA); aunts, Jettie P. Deloach and Connie (Jessie) Rhodes (Glennville, GA); alongside a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and cherished friends.
